FileStoreShred.com searches the Internet daily and sifts through thousands of potential event listings to create a highly accessible and easy to use tool for you. This Quick Start Guide will help you become proficient in the basics of using FileStoreShred.com to find upcoming free paper shredding events and hazardous/electronic waste disposal events near you. Search Approach
To get started, type the name of your city in the Search box located in the upper left-hand corner of the home page. Then press "Go". If the city you are looking for is listed in our database, you will see links taking you to articles about shredding events there. Review the links to see if you find an event that you want to attend. Click the link to get details about location, date, time and any special requirements. If your search results show no listings for your city or if you want listings that describe only upcoming events, try a different approach. Navigation Approach Using the website navigation approach, look under the main menu and click on the link representing your region of the country. You will then be presented with a list sorted by two-letter state/province abbreviations. Scroll through the list to find your state and city or, maybe, another city near you. When you find the city and date that you like, follow the link to get details about the event. The Format Used for Presentation Once you select a region, the listings are sorted first by state and second by date. The date is displayed in the format "yyyy.mm.dd" (i.e., year followed by month followed by day). For example, the date May 8, 2008 would be displayed as 2008.05.08. In order to provide you with additional information at a quick glance, in some cases footnotes appear next to the names of cities and states: - '$$$' - means that a non-profit organization or government agency is charging a fee to some or all participants based on stated policies or weight limits
- 'CDR' - means a donation is requested to benefit one or more charitable organizations
- 'EHW' - means that, in addition to paper, certain types of electronic, magnetic or household hazardous waste are collected. Events vary. Be sure to find out WHAT IS and IS NOT being accepted.
Once completed, events fall off the website after 3-5 days.
Your Browser's FIND Function You'll notice that with only a few exceptions, our listings represent weblinks to other organizations' web pages. This means that the information you are looking for in some cases is prominently displayed. However, in other cases it is buried in topics that are not related to shredding or disposal. If you are having trouble finding info on a particular page, we recommend that you use your web browser's "Find" command (<CONTROL-F>). NOTE: This is different from "Search." Usually a few clicks after FIND "shred" will highlight the information you are looking for. -=- Now you know how to quickly navigate FileStoreShred.com to find hazardous and electronic waste recycling events, community shreds, shredder events, shred-a-thons, free shreds, shred fests, Earth Day celebrations, document destruction parties, paper recycling events and "Secure Your ID" days..
